Camp Habitat

Habitat for Humanity of Simpson County is launching a Christian service youth camp called Camp Habitat. In June of 2011, local youth will attend a free week-long overnight camp here in Simpson County. During the day, they will help selected homeowners make non-structural exterior improvements to their homes. Evenings will include fun activities, good food and a spiritual program emphasizing the relationship between Christian faith and service. The home improvement projects will be free to homeowners and will consist mostly of painting, cleaning vinyl and aluminum siding, cleaning out gutters, and landscaping. Youth will be closely supervised by adults while working on local homes. Habitat is now starting the search for homes to work on next summer. You must own your home to be eligible for this program.

Homes built prior to 1978 will be ineligible for painting projects due to the new laws regarding lead paint removal. However, homeowners with older homes may still apply for other exterior work to be done at their residence.

Families will be selected using a point system, and preference will be given to applicants who are elderly, disabled, or in financial need. However, all homeowners who need help with exterior home improvements are encouraged to apply as the camp needs a large number of projects. Once Habitat receives the completed application, a representative will visit the house to review the project for Camp Habitat selection. Date of application will be a factor in selecting projects, so Habitat encourages homeowners to APPLY NOW.
