Habitat Helps Families

Habitat for Humanity of Simpson County is a non-profit (501c3) ecumenical Christian housing ministry. We bring families in need together with volunteers and resources to build and rehabilitate decent, affordable houses.

A partner family told us, “We were living in an old run down mobile home with two kids and not much income. Living from week to week. I would never have been able to buy or get a house if it wasn’t for Habitat.”

Habitat truly changes lives. We do it by providing homeownership opportunities for families who could not otherwise buy a home. Houses are sold to our partner families at cost, with no profit built in. Families enter into a zero-interest 20 year mortgage. Because we keep costs so low, partner families pay around $300 a month, including insurance and taxes. Often this allows the families to have more expendable income.

Habitat Benefits the Community

Habitat helps the community in a variety of ways. We provide practical outlets for volunteerism and the opportunity to meet new people. Grant money secured outside Simpson County gets spent here to help the local economy. Plus, Habitat homes increase the tax base in Simpson County. We estimate that our partner families pay over $11,000 a year in property taxes!
